If your brand has any sort of online presence, you’ll need to supplement your messaging and communication with strategic imagery. Does your business need branding photos? Short answer: Yes. Photos that align with your branding are critical to forging an emotional connection between your audience and the product you sell or service you provide.
Branding is the perception of your business in the minds of those who see it. Through things like your brand’s visuals and our brand’s voice we can form an image in our audience’s heads. Therefore, your brand is what your audience thinks and feels about you. As soon as you understand this concept, you realize just how important it is to have strategic and intentional branding photos. Your images need to emanate the vibes and themes that you want your audience to connect with. In summary, your branding photos visually communicate your brand’s identity, values, and message. In the small business world you’ll often hear the term “Your Why”. This is another way of explaining of your brand’s mission and vision. In other words: why does your business exists and what impact do you aim to have. Cohesive and strategic branding photos will help your audience understand the driving forces behind why you do what you do. You can think of your branding images being the visual representation of your “why”. Every image should in some way communicate your brand values and message. When your business has intentional branding photos you’ll more effectively connect with your audience. They will be more likely to invest in your products and services.
Here’s a hypothetical situation: In your local area there are two Coffee shops. Shop A is located in a busy area with lots of foot traffic. Their customer base is made up of a wide range of ages and interests. Their mission is to sell affordable coffee to everyone. Shop B sells a unique style of coffee that young people love, though it is much more expensive. They pride themselves in having a great cafe atmosphere and excellent customer service. Their goal isn’t to attract as many customers as possible, it’s to sell their higher priced coffee to people who value experience and service.
If Both Shop A and Shop B decided to invest in branding photos, they would both end up looking very different. Shop A might have a more general and conservative approach in order to resonate with a broader target audience. Shop B might want a more stylized approach to best connect with a niche group of people. They would resonate with people who value the experience they provide.
Even though both Coffee shops are local to the same area, strategic branding photos would make them stand out from one another. The results would likely be that both business’s would be able to achieve their goals while still being able to happily co-exist in the same area.
