On September 8, 2017, we had the opportunity to document the classiest and most elegant Disney-themed wedding at Pine Knot Golf & Country Club in Dorchester, Ontario! I LOOOOOVE Disney, so you can imagine how giddy I was over every single detail that Silken & Connor carefully curated for their wedding day. It was a truly special day filled with so much love from their friends & family, Mariana’s Trench lyrics (in their vows + their first dance), heartfelt speeches, and lots of laughter and tears. I asked Silken to send me her thoughts about having a Disney-themed wedding. This is what she said:

Look at this stuff, isn’t it neat? Wouldn’t you think these decorations are sweet?

When someone says “Disney wedding” you immediately think “wow tacky”. Well let me see if I can change your mind.

For as long as I can remember, Disney has been a huge part of my life. That being said, I never planned on having a Disney themed wedding. It’s not like I’ve been saying since I was 5 that I wanted to have Disney princesses at my wedding, or that my dress had to look just like Cinderella’s. It just worked out that way. The story of how my husband and I came together has always been described as a fairytale by our friends and family so I supposed a fairytale wedding was only fitting!

Before we get into WHY we opted for a Disney wedding, we must first delve into some back story.

So.

Once upon a time….

There lived a boy from Spokane, Washington who left his family to serve god and country far from home in a land known as Maryland, USA. Miles away there lived a girl from a small town in Ontario, Canada chasing knowledge with a fierce independence. No one assumed their worlds would ever collide…

When I met Connor, it truly was love at first sight. I was walking down the aisle at the wedding where we met and because I’m me, I of course tripped. As I gathered my dress and stood back up, there he was. I had never seen a more attractive man in my life. My first look at this man hit me like the force of a great typhoon and my heart literally skipped a beat (trust me I thought that was just in the stories as well but here it was, happening to me). I’m awkward by nature and meeting my husband was no different. If you’ve seen frozen, imagine Anna times 15 and you’ve got me trying to communicate with the most gorgeous man I’ve ever met..

Yikes.

Throughout the night he made several attempts to try and talk to me all of which resulted in me nervously running away without the courtesy of even leaving my shoe behind.

Somehow with faith, trust and a little bit of pixie dust, this man still thought I was attractive. After running away from him several times, he finally got me alone and asked me to dance. We laughed, quoted movies and started to bond over our mutually profound love for Disney.

By the end of the night we were both well on our way to falling in love. All I wanted was to be part of his world.

As the days passed we used Skype to stay in nearly constant contact. Seriously, we Skyped for 70 hours straight once. On top of that, this man was a true hero and would travel 10 hours after working a 12 hour shift just to come spend a weekend with me! He thought every mile was worth the while, he didn’t care how far, he could go the distance. Then one visit he got down on one knee, pulled out a ring pop from the wedding we met at and asked me to be his girlfriend. Of course I said yes and it wasn’t long before it became clear we only wanted each other for the rest of our lives.

Then one day, February 16th 2017 to be exact, we were walking through the mall as we had many times before and Connor suddenly wanted to go to the Disney store. Of course I would never deny a trip to the Disney store, so in we went. After being in there a short few minutes the sales associate asked us if we wanted to do a sing-a-long in the store! Together we sang “Love is an Open Door” from Frozen and as Hans/Connor said “can I say something crazy? Will you marry me” this man got down on one knee with a diamond ring in his hand. Through tears of incandescent joy I said yes!

As we planned our wedding we kept coming back to Disney. Disney invitations requesting our friends and family to be our guests to the most important moment in our lives! Every table was decorated after a famous Disney movie or couple. The first red rose Connor ever got me was carefully encased in a glass dome and placed on our “Beauty and the Beast” table reserved for our family. Snow White’s wishing well stood tall, ready to receive cards. Our cake decorated with the Disney castle and our date as a topper. A glass slipper amid silver pumpkins, a medal carefully placed between Grecian columns and a rose bush in the shape of a certain mouse’s head were just a few tables on display. My wedding was the most magical 24 hours of my life and I’m grateful every day to see the small delicate reminders of September 8th 2017 each in their own special place around our house.

And so our wedding was Disney themed.

I married my Prince Charming and we went on to honeymoon in Disneyland. The tradition of Disney still lives on in our family as it always will, and not to spoil the ending or anything but….

We truly did live happily ever after.

How friggin’ beautiful is their love story and how perfect are they for each other!?

With that, here is their magical Disney-themed wedding! Try and guess which movie each of the tables represent!
